The March blog is about money and health care. Many services associated with dealing with TMJ are not recovered by provincial health care splints, some physio, osteo, laser , drugs, etc. and some if not all of the cost of maxilla-facial surgeons.
That being said, I am for OHIP covering dental care and also care associated with treating TMJ.
If OHIP covered dentistry, as is covered in England, those with TMJ would be covered for most of the above listed services and resources. For many people, the cost is prohibitive.
The cost of a splint is approximately. $500.00. In some cases these costs can run as high as $2200.00 when combined with the associated office visits. These important appliances need to be covered also.
In the coming months, I will be trying to garner support for TMJ resources being included for coverage by OHIP. Please write to me with your comments.
The next meeting is a Temple Sinai, 21o Wilson Ave, West of Avenue Road, March 24th from 7-9pm. The topic for discussion will be vitamin treatments. I invite TMJ suffers to come and discus their experiences.
