Charlatans Elixirs and Other Cures
There are limits to medicine and there are limits to dentistry.
That being said, there are limits to what they can do for you if you have TMJ if you follow the much touted non-invasive conservative approach.
I am quite willing to try almost anything –well almost to help my TMJ and I don’t want to throw away my money-s what’s a girl to do.
A friend of mine thinks that I may have fallen victim to some charlatans.
I don’t think everything I tried falls into this category though. I have tried some interesting things. I try to do things or go for treatments that come recommended by other medical/dental professional or from other TJ sufferers. These things don’t come cheap. I even tried a $50 a bottle specially formulated nose spray.
Physio has helped improve the range of movement of my bite and has reduced pain. Low level cold laser also helped with my range of movement. The laser sometimes made me feel worse- tightness in jaw-for a few days after treatment but then much better. For now
I have plateaued with both.
My voice is still off and I sometimes have tightness in the jaw-so I will try a few more things. The Alexander Technique and then Feldenkrais.
I was recommended both The Alexander Technique often helps with speech and TMJ has changed the sound of my voice –so why not.
